Sam asked if he could start riding the bus home again from Seneca. I was trying to figure out why all of a sudden he wanted to ride the bus again. He wasn’t really able to tell me why. I thought maybe someone he liked rides the bus, so I asked him:
Mom: Sam who else rides the bus with you?
Sam: I don’t know.
Mom: Sammmm?
Sam: I’ll ask them their names tomorrow.
Mom: Is it boys & girls?
Sam: Yes, boys & girls. Mom my favorite child at Seneca is Amaiyah.
Mom: You mean Amaiyah at Kennedy?
Sam: No Amaiyah at Seneca.
Mom: Oh, there’s an Amaiyah at Seneca too?
Sam: Yes there’s one Amaiya at Seneca & one at Kennedy.
Mom: Oh. (thinking for a while) What color is Amiyah’s skin?
Sam: (thinking) Black. umm, no, dark brown.
Mom: Oh, I bet she’s pretty.
Sam: Yes she is pretty.
Mom: Does Amaiyah ride the bus?
Sam: Yes she does ride the bus.
Mom: Do you sit with her on the bus?
Sam: No.
