On our mini-vaca this week, we went to Great Wolf Lodge, Williamsburg, VA. We got there on Thursday 2/16 around 5pm. When we checked in, we were kindly upgraded to a theme suite – “wolf kids cabin” which had bunk beds in the kids own little den area, with it’s own TV & video game system. We also got fushia wristbands that had our room key programmed right in them, and also was our electronic charging system for the hotel. You could just scan your wrist band it it would charge your purchases to your room, including the vending machine. Pretty neat. I told the boys they had to keep the wristbands on until we were all done vacation or we wouldn’t be allowed to go to the water park; Sam exclaimed “I want to keep mine forever!”
The boys really liked the bunk beds. Max immediately claimed the top one as his “this is where I’m gonna sleep.” Sam at first said, “No I want to sleep there” but then he climbed up and from the top bunk said, “It’s okay, Max can sleep here” and then proceeded to fall off the ladder on the way down (just missed a couple of steps at the bottom). I also thought it was funny to see the two of them standing buck naked, except for their shoes, each with a video game controller in their hand trying to get the game system to work. We did get to spend a couple hours at the water park the first night. We rode the blue & yellow tubed “tornado” (or at least that’s what we called it since the boys really wanted to ride the “tornado” but we couldn’t because you had to be at least 48″ tall even w/a grownup). They were fun, pretty dark & fast. I think Max got his fill of that because he didn’t want to do them anymore and then he didn’t want to do the orange or green slide either. We forced him down the orange slide, despite his objections “No dad! Don’t!” because I knew he would love it if he tried, he was just scared after the “tornado”. Of course, at the bottom he shouted, “I liked that, it was fun, I want to do it again!” Whew, that paid off. They also both liked the lily pads and were surprisingly good at it, and the wave pool. Max really liked jumping the waves, and Sam liked being washed ashore by them. We were having so much fun, we didn’t even eat dinner until around 9. Max slept in the top bunk, and Sam in the bottom, and they both did great and slept in until around 7:40.
In the morning Sam got up first, which is a switch because it’s usually Max, and got into bed with us to cuddle. Sam was super chatty about all the things he wanted to do he said rapidly “Mom, first I want to do the water park backwards today. First the lily pads, and then the ocean pool with the waves and then the orange and green slides and, and, then do you know what my most favorite toy in the whole world is? You mom.” He purposely reached one arm under my side and one over me and squeezed me so hard with the biggest hug, in fact the only real hug I think he has ever spontaneously given me. It was the best morning ever.
What a great trip.
