I dropped Sam off for his first day of Pre-K and headed home to play with Max. The first time that I can remember being home alone with Max where he had my undivided attention. Sure enough, in true Max fashion, he wanted to climb the kitchen & jump to me. He climbs up, gets a rock or shell out of the glass bowl on top of the hutch, tosses it to me.
I say, “hey, let’s make shell soup today” and put the shell in one of his kitchen pots. He jumps and we go through this process at least 5 times. Then he says he wants to jump “2 more times” then we’ll make our soup.
He comes down and I kneel by him and work in his kitchen making shell soup. He adds water to the pot, salt & pepper, stirs it and puts in on the heat to bubble. When it’s done, we get two bowls, he serves it out with a larger spoon “all by myself mom!” and we have a picnic of shell soup & milk on the floor. When we’re done our soup, we put our dishes in the sink, and wash, dry & put them away, and hang our dish towels on the drawers of the kitchen to “dry”. It was so much fun playing one on one with Max. Playing, having fun, not refereeing, not correcting, not yelling or timing out, just playing with my “little” boy as we had never been so lucky to do before.
I love you Max. I can’t wait to play more tomorrow!
