Sam: Mom I have to pee! MOM!
Mom: Sam, what are you supposed to do if you have to pee? You don’t need to call me, you just get up & go.
Sam: But I need your help mom, the things in my room scare me.
Mom: Why because it’s dark? Would it help if you had a night light?
Sam w/his anxious laugh: Yes.
Mom: Is that better with the light now?
Sam: Yes (anxious laugh)
Mom: See honey, you just have to tell me if something is bothering you so I can help you fix it.
Sam: Okay.
Telling me how he felt – scared & why & then able to solve the problem! Yay!!
